Indian boxers delivered a commanding performance in the quarterfinals at the World Boxing Cup 2026 in Guiyang, China, assuring the country of a minimum of six medals after a sweep of victories that placed Indian men and women firmly in the semifinal stage across multiple weight categories.

In the women’s competition, Prachi secured a 4-1 points win over Chinese Taipei’s Shih Yi Wu in the 57 kg category to advance to the last four. Minakshi produced an even more dominant display, defeating Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova 5-0 in the 51 kg category. Jyoti in the 48 kg division and Jugnoo in the 85 kg division had already assured India of podium finishes in earlier rounds after advancing to the semifinals.

In the men’s competition, Deepak outclassed Azerbaijan’s Nabi Isgandarov with a unanimous 5-0 verdict in the 70 kg quarterfinal, while Nikhil was equally impressive, defeating Azerbaijan’s Amin Mammadzada 5-0 in the 55 kg bout to book his semifinal berth.

The results reflect the depth and quality of India’s boxing programme, which has been systematically strengthened over the years through professional coaching, international exposure, and institutional support under the Sports Authority of India and the relevant national federation.

India’s boxing contingent has been one of the more consistent performers on the international circuit, with a strong record at Asian and Commonwealth level competitions. The World Boxing Cup 2026 represents another opportunity for Indian boxers to assert their credentials on a global stage and build momentum heading into upcoming international tournaments.

With six athletes guaranteed medals, the Guiyang competition is shaping up to be one of India’s strongest showings at the event. The semi-finals will determine the colour of those medals, and the Indian camp will be hoping that at least several of the confirmed finalists go on to claim gold.

Officials and coaches are expected to be watching closely as the competition moves into its final stages over the coming days.
