Srinagar, July 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has served a ₹100 crore legal notice on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of making “false, baseless and defamatory” allegations against the party and its leaders.

The notice, issued through Advocate Parimoksh Seth on behalf of BJP J&K President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Paul Sharma, pertains to remarks allegedly made by Omar Abdullah during a convention in Srinagar on July 11. The notice claims Abdullah accused BJP functionaries of attempting to lure National Conference MLAs from the Jammu region with offers of ₹20 to ₹30 crore, ministerial berths, and restoration of statehood.

The BJP has categorically denied the allegations, calling them malicious, defamatory and devoid of factual basis. It contends that the statements have caused serious damage to the party’s reputation and image.

The legal notice demands that Omar Abdullah:

• Withdraw the allegations in writing.
• Issue an unconditional public apology within seven days.
• Refrain from making or circulating any further defamatory statements against the BJP.

It further warns that failure to comply within the stipulated period would compel the BJP to initiate both civil and criminal proceedings, including a ₹100 crore defamation suit, besides other legal remedies available under law.
