Farmer ID generation camps are underway across villages in Kulgam district, with the drive being closely monitored by the District Administration as part of a wider push to digitize agricultural records in Jammu and Kashmir.

The initiative aims to give every farmer a single digital identity, allowing them to access government schemes and benefits more transparently and with far less friction than the paperwork-heavy processes of the past. Beyond simplifying access to welfare schemes, the system is designed to maintain accurate, continuously updated records of farmers and their landholdings, closing gaps that have historically slowed the delivery of agricultural support in the region.

According to District Master Trainer Nasir Ahmad Matoo, roughly 2,500 Farmer IDs have been generated in Kulgam over just the past three days, a pace officials describe as encouraging given how recently the camps began. He said the initiative would strengthen digital identification systems across the district and ensure that farmers’ records are maintained in a more systematic, verifiable manner going forward.

The Farmer ID is expected to serve as a gateway to a range of services, including applications for Kisan loans, access to Intikhab or land records, and enrollment in various agricultural welfare schemes. For many smallholders in Kulgam, a single verified digital identity could mean faster loan approvals and fewer bureaucratic delays when applying for support during sowing or harvest seasons.

Local farmers participating in the camps welcomed the initiative, saying digital records would bring greater transparency and accountability to the system, reduce delays in scheme disbursal, and help ensure that government benefits reach eligible beneficiaries directly rather than being lost to administrative bottlenecks. Several farmers also expressed appreciation to the Central Government for launching the campaign, describing the digitization of land and farmer records as an important step toward modernizing Jammu and Kashmir’s agricultural sector while safeguarding landholders’ rights and interests.

The District Administration has urged farmers across Kulgam who have not yet registered to participate in the ongoing camps and get their Farmer IDs generated without delay, so they can begin availing themselves of the benefits the digital system is designed to unlock. Officials indicated that similar camps are expected to continue in the coming days as the district works toward broader coverage of its farming population.

The push in Kulgam mirrors a nationwide effort under the Agristack initiative to build unified digital farmer registries, which planners say will eventually allow more targeted delivery of subsidies, insurance payouts, and credit access based on verified landholding data rather than manual documentation.
