Jammu, April 11: Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched a major mass campaign for a “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” from MA Stadium, marking the start of a 100-day anti-drug drive under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.

The Lieutenant Governor flagged off a padyatra from MA Stadium to Parade Ground, joining public representatives, officials, and thousands of citizens in a walkathon aimed at raising awareness against drug abuse.

Addressing the gathering, Sinha called for collective action to eliminate the drug menace, describing it as one of the region’s gravest challenges. He said the next three months will focus on six key areas: awareness, youth engagement, community participation, strict enforcement, rehabilitation, and evaluation.

Issuing a stern warning to drug traffickers, he announced strict action including seizure of properties, freezing of bank accounts, and cancellation of passports, Aadhaar, and licenses. He also highlighted new rules to regulate rehabilitation centres and ensure proper treatment facilities.

Sinha urged youth, community leaders, and civil society to actively participate in the campaign, stressing that the fight against drugs requires a united effort across all sections of society.

The event concluded with an anti-drug pledge and cultural programmes, as the campaign formally began across the Union Territory.

Meanwhile, J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Darakshan Andrabi has directed Imams and Khateebs at shrines across Jammu and Kashmir to actively promote the anti-drug campaign during their Friday sermons.

The Waqf Chairperson urged religious leaders to use the Friday khitaab as a platform to raise awareness about the growing menace of drug abuse and its harmful impact on society, particularly the youth.
