In an unprecedented show of public anger against drug abuse, the streets of Srinagar were flooded with thousands of people as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led a massive “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” rally, turning the city into a sea of voices demanding an end to the drug menace.
From remote villages to the city centre, people poured in large numbers to join the movement, signalling a growing uprising against narco-terror networks targeting the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Launching the campaign at TRC Football Ground, the Lieutenant Governor delivered a fiery address before leading a 2-km padyatra, declaring an all-out war on drugs and those behind the trade. He called upon every citizen to rise and take responsibility, saying the fight is not just administrative but a battle for the future of society.
“This is not just a pledge, it is a collective cry of families shattered by addiction and a resolve to reclaim our youth,” he said, adding that Jammu and Kashmir will not rest until the drug menace is wiped out completely.
In a strong message to traffickers and anti-national elements, Sinha warned that their networks are being systematically dismantled. He revealed that within just 21 days, authorities registered 481 FIRs, jailed over 500 peddlers, demolished properties linked to drug money, and seized assets worth crores.
Linking narco-trade to terrorism, he said drug money is being used to fuel violence and destabilise the region, making the crackdown a matter of national security.
Calling drugs “chains that steal freedom,” he urged the youth to reject addiction and channel their energy towards sports and nation-building.
With a zero-tolerance policy in force and massive public participation on display, the rally marked a decisive escalation in the fight against drugs, sending a loud and clear message that Jammu and Kashmir is rising united against the menace.
