Shehlat Foundation, in collaboration with Mool Mouj Foundation, organized a major awareness programme on drug abuse prevention, rehabilitation, child safety, and broader social reform, bringing together prominent speakers, social activists, educators, artists, and citizens.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Adnan Ashraf, a Class 6 student of PM Shri Government Secondary School Laharwalpora, Bandipora, followed by a Naat by Abid Salam. The proceedings were conducted by noted broadcaster Syed Mubashir Rufai.
In his welcome address, Ghulam Abbas (IIS), former Director CBC, stressed the need for collective social responsibility. Chief Guest Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Ganie (IAS), Chairman, Group of Concerned Citizens, termed drug abuse a serious social crisis and emphasized the role of families, political leadership, NGOs, and grassroots institutions in tackling the issue.
Guest of Honour, former Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Siddiqui, pointed to weakening family structures, erosion of moral leadership, and rising materialism as key causes, urging revival of joint family values. Special Guest Waheed Jeelani highlighted the role of art and media in driving social change.
Chairman Mool Mouj Foundation, Dr. Zubair Saleem, described drug addiction as preventable and curable, calling for stronger government coordination and public participation in the “Nasha Mukt J&K” mission.
Poets Zareef Ahmad, Zahoor Hygami, and G. M. Dilshad delivered impactful verses reflecting on the societal damage caused by substance abuse. Javid Jawad outlined the vision of Shehlat Foundation, while Dr. Irtiqa stressed child safety and the importance of preventive awareness.
A skit by Firdous Dramatic Club highlighted the dangers of drug abuse and the role of parents. Chairman Shehlat Foundation Mohammad Rafiq Lone reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to bridging government, NGOs, and the public.
The programme concluded with mementos presented by Mohammad Iqbal Beigh, Acting Chairman, J&K Yateem Foundation, underscoring the collective resolve to build a drug-free society.
