Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting in Bandipora to assess the progress of developmental works and the implementation of key government programmes across the district, emphasising the need for accountability, timely project completion, and citizen-centric governance.
The review meeting, held at the district headquarters, brought together senior government officials, Cabinet ministers, and elected representatives including local Members of the Legislative Assembly. The Chief Minister went through major sectoral indicators, the status of ongoing infrastructure projects, and the delivery of public services across Bandipora, which borders the Wular Lake and includes some of the most remote areas of the Kashmir Valley.
During the deliberations, Abdullah directed all departments to accelerate the pace of project execution and ensure that the benefits of developmental schemes reach people on the ground without delay. He underlined the importance of enhanced responsiveness in governance and stressed that the administration must remain attuned to the aspirations and expectations of the public.
The Deputy Chief Minister and other Cabinet ministers who participated in the meeting reviewed progress in various sectors including education, health, road connectivity, rural development, and social welfare programmes. Local MLAs also raised district-specific concerns and offered their inputs on priorities that require immediate attention.
Bandipora, a district that lies in the northern part of the Kashmir Valley with its headquarters at the southern shore of Wular Lake, has seen a gradual increase in developmental activity in recent years. The district has benefited from various centrally sponsored schemes and J&K government initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and quality of life in remote and mountainous communities.
The Chief Minister’s decision to personally visit and chair such district-level review meetings reflects his administration’s approach of hands-on governance. By meeting officials and elected representatives directly in the districts, the government aims to cut through bureaucratic delays and ensure that departments are held accountable for their commitments.
Abdullah has consistently emphasised that development must not remain confined to urban centres, and that districts like Bandipora, with significant rural and semi-urban populations, deserve focused attention to bring them on par with more developed areas of the union territory.
Officials present at the meeting were directed to submit time-bound action plans for pending projects and to ensure that grievance redressal mechanisms are strengthened at the district and block levels to address public concerns swiftly and effectively.
